Pete Callan is the owner and operator of RTI starting in 2008/9 with repairing Poly-Carbonate helmets. Pete then branched out into servicing leather helmets for the local CT area where leather services quickly came into demand. RagTop operated out of Pete's home until 2015, where they then expanded into their Woodbridge facility. RagTop now encompasses a larger shop in Hamden covering approximately 3000 sqft.

Pete Started his fire service career in 1999 as a volunteer with the Dunbar Hill Fire Department in Hamden, CT. In 2003 he joined the United States Air Force as a Firefighter, continuing after his 4 years Active Duty into the Connecticut Air National Guard until 2014. Pete Served 3 tours in the Middle East, 2005 in Kirkuk, Iraq with the 506th AEG, 2006 & 2009 in Kuwait with the 386th AEG.
In 2014 Pete was hired by the City of New Haven, CT and is currently assigned to Rescue Company 1.

Mike Persico
Shop Manager & Technician

Mike started with RagTop in 2015 to help with the growing amount of leathers coming in each month. After a year apprenticing, Mike now ensures the shop runs 5 days a week to keep up with demand. Mike started his Fire Service career in 1987 with the City of New Haven, retiring after 25 years. Mike's assignments included Engine 4, TAC 2 and he was a founding member of the city's Squad Companies; assigned to Squad Company 1 as the Assigned Driver.

Dan Calcagni
Helmet Tech & Paint

Dan started with RagTop in 2017 and has been an important worker for the restoration process. On the days Dan is in the shop, helmets come his way for disassembly and paint prep the majority of the time. He works alongside Mike most days in the shop, assisting him in both painting and assembling helmets. He also lays down the work onto helmets as they come into the shop day in and day out to help boost the speed for the customization/refurb timeline! Dan is a Firefighter with the City of Stamford.

Rob Vece
Helmet Tech & Sanding

As a graduate from Technical school, Rob started work here at RagTop in May of 2021. He has been a volunteer for Cheshire Fire Department for 3 years. initially he began doing odds & ends around the shop and assisting staff in their work, eventually becoming experienced enough to be a helmet tech and a proficient sander in the helmet prepping process. Rob is a reliable worker as he was always mechanically inclined, allowing him to be well versed in more practical instances for helmet work.

 At the shop, Rob's role involves prepping the helmets through our sanding process and disassembly. He handles cleaning up the surface of helmets after they've been stripped and gets them set for the guys in paint. As a main pillar of the restoration process, his tasks are pivotal to the consistency and fluidity of our services.

Joseph Persico
Photographer & Social Media Specialist

As a graduate of East Haven High School, Joseph joined the team in late February of 2021 initially starting in the shipping department, assisting the shop in packaging, fulfilling store orders and intaking helmets for restoration work. Nearly a month later, his role expanded into managing the social media platforms and content creation of the business as he was well versed in the formulas that make up these platforms, as well as being a skilled photographer & adept colorist.

While shipping our helmets on the side, Joseph handles all of our DM's and questions throughout social media and works apace with our office manager on the website and it's products!  If you're contacting us through our Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, it's more than likely that you're talking to him!
